If neither of those solutions work, then you may need to return or exchange your mouse for a new one. If that doesn’t help, then try moving the dongle away from other devices that might be causing interference. If you’re experiencing problems with your Ironclaw Wireless, the first thing you should do is try using it with a different USB port. A few people have reported that their mouse works fine when plugged in with a cable, but as soon as they go wireless, it starts having issues. Another possibility is that there’s something wrong with the mouse itself. This could be due to interference from other devices, or maybe just a faulty dongle. One is that the mouse is failing to connect to the dongle properly. There are a few possible causes for this issue. If neither of those solutions work, then there may be an issue with either the battery or charging circuitry inside the mouse itself. Also, try using a different USB cable altogether – sometimes one brand or type of cable works better than another for charging devices. If it’s not all the way in, then it won’t charge properly. Make sure that the USB cable you are using is fully inserted into both the mouse and your computer’s USB port. If this doesn’t work, then move on to checking the USB cable. Try cleaning out the port with a can of compressed air or a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. The first reason could be that there is dust or debris blocking the charging port on the bottom of the mouse. There are a few possible reasons why this may be happening. This can be frustrating, especially if you are in the middle of a game and your mouse dies. ![]() “You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away, know when to run,” the gambler says, transporting the listener and the song’s narrator to a gambling table where much to be gained or lost every decision. There’s a little red ember at the end of that “last cigarette” that can be seen in the dim light of the passenger car. ![]() Though it is not described in the song, one can almost hear the wheels on the rails, the chug of the engine and the long swig from the bottom of the whisky bottle. Schlitz’s imagery is as powerful as his metaphors. However, instead of drawing on familiar comparisons, Schlitz’s lyrics condense a lifetime of the old gambler’s wisdom into a few simple phrases even the most novice card player can understand and from which listeners of the song can readily derive advice.įor instance, the gambler says “the secret to survivin’ is knowin’ what to throw away and knowing what to keep.” He points out that every hand has the potential for victory or defeat, and it’s in knowing how to play the game correctly that influences the outcome. People have long used expressions like “playing with the hand you’re dealt” or “an ace in the hole” or “poker face.” This comparison is an old one and did not originate with this song. The song reinforces the parallel between gambling and a person’s life by using card game terminology. The appeal of the song is the double meaning behind the gambler’s words and that of the narrator. Having made his living from reading people’s faces, the gambler detected something in the younger man that led him to conclude that he was “out of aces.” The song’s narrator trades a drink of whisky for the gambler’s advice, unsolicited though it may be. 3 on the Adult Contemporary charts, not to mention being a Top 10 hit in Canada and charting in Spain, Australia and New Zealand. 1 Billboard Country song that also peaked at No. If that were all the song was about, it would not have been a No. On the surface the song could be easily described as a ballad about two restless, bored men on a train who begin talking about gambling and end up sharing some whisky and cigarettes before they finally fall asleep. Isn’t that exactly what the enduring Kenny Rogers hit penned by prolific songwriter Don Schiltz has done for listeners over the past 40 years? Not to be too academic, but literary conceit is defined as “an extended metaphor that compares two dissimilar things by juxtaposing, usurping and manipulating images and ideas in surprising ways and inviting the reader or listener into a more sophisticated understanding of an object of comparison.” “The Gambler” has quite possibly the best example of literary conceit of any song. ![]() ![]() A paragon of decency who stands for tolerance and nonviolence at all costs, Atticus also is a loving, nurturing father who treats everyone around him, including his children, with respect. Peck's Oscar-winning performance anchors the film, which is finely crafted, with a perfectly balanced script by Horton Foote. Kids will appreciate how To Kill a Mockingbird talks to them but not down at them and reaches for the heart without gimmicks or trite characters. This film offers crucial lessons about prejudice and the fears that motivate it and is a portrait of how racism was discussed in the years leading up to the civil rights movement. So good though!!! I watched it when I was 13 and was fine just skipped the parts I suggested above and my brother was 12 when he watched it and he actually liked it despite the fact that he does not like old movies! Really well done with great and convincing actors and good messages! There is also educational value because you get to see how a trial works. Not for kids above 13 as their are scary moments and mature themes. It is also surprisingly funny despite the subject do the movie, thanks to Jem Scout and Dill. Watch this movie! One of my favorites and you will not regret is. I could have sworn that Philip Alford and Mary Badham were actually siblings they were so realisitic! I know a lot of people think the acting isn’t great, but I disagree! Gregory Peck is AMAZING and his acting does justice to the amazing character that is Atticus, and Jem Dill and Scout are fun and innocent yet have the ability to be serious and the young actors live up to their roles perfectly. Boo Radley’s story is fun to watch and one of the best parts of the movie. He does the right thing despite peer pressure. Atticus is a great roll model because he is kind, loves his family, and defends a black man at a time when black people were looked down on. You can tell that Jem loves and is protective of his little sister. Jem, Scout and Atticus make a great and loving family. However, there are many good things about this movie! It is one of my favorite films. At the end the police blames it on suicide when it really wasn’t. Scout is ok, Jem is fine but just breaks his arm, and their chaser is stabbed and killed. A person (I won’t say who because it would spoil it) chases Jem and Scout through the woods at knight with a knife. The end might be too intense for some viewers. Also, Mayella’s dad is creepy when Atticus is visiting Tom’s family and Mr. This is way too mature for kids, but also Mayella’s testimony is very graphic and I suggest skipping over it. the whole plot revolves around the rape of a white girl. Explain to them how the only reason they say that in the movie is because many people didn’t know it was bad at the time, but it’s still not good to say then or now. I don’t suggest watching this with a young kid, but if you do, you should talk to them first about why it’s not ok to use those words especially the n word. There are some things you should look out for, such as: This movie is one of my favorite movies ever, so good and heartfelt. ![]() Just keep in mind I am a kid writing this just using my mom’s account. To stay in the loop on more movies like this, you can sign up for weekly Family Movie Night emails. The film should inspire family discussion of not only racism and injustice, but also how values such as empathy and compassion can be used to educate against bigotry and profound ignorance. In the movie's powerful courtroom scenes, the rape of an impoverished young White woman is discussed in detail, and over the course of the trial, abuse (and possibly incest) is implied at the hands of her father. The "N" word is used as a weapon by the lead villain, and when young Scout Finch (Mary Badham) uses the word because kids at her school are using it, her father explains why she should never use it. Its powerful evocation of racism and bigotry in 1930s Alabama remains relevant today, as do the themes of empathy, compassion, and justice sought by Atticus Finch ( Gregory Peck). If there I have one complaint it is that the identity of the person who cut the rope is revealed at the end of the third episode leading to a rather melodramatic finale.
